What does HERhealth's program involve?
Individual evaluation, treatment and coaching by a physiotherapist with a special interest in Women’s Health.

Initial evaluation includes:

  • Posture
  • Pelvic floor muscle function.
  • The function of the pelvic girdle, hip and spine and
  • Core muscle strength

At  Mariette Oelofse Physiotherapists we use a combination of the techniques listed below to treat and rehabilitate different types of uro-gynae conditions.

These teqniques includes:

Behavioural modification - education on diet, fluid intake, and other lifestyle changes to manage various bothersome symptoms.

Bladder training - learning to use the pelvic floor muscles to suppress overactive bladder symptoms (urinary urgency, frequency, nocturia, and urge urinary incontinence). 

Biofeedback – a device used to train the pelvic floor muscles to contract or relax correctly. 

Functional electrical stimulation - a device that delivers a gentle electrical current to activate or relax the nerves and muscles in the pelvis.

Manual  triggerpoint therapy - pressure is applied to and released from the pelvic floor muscles in spasm, to relax them and increase blood flow to the area for healing

Joint and tissue mobilization - gentle manual techniques are applied to the pelvic girdle as well as spinal joints and muscles.  This is to ensure optimal function.

Vaginal cones – Functional Strengthening using vaginal weighted cones

Post Tibial Nerve Stimulation for the Over Active Bladder

Pilates and Modified Yoga exercises

Rehabilitation and Education:

  • Further education on settling into a pelvic function routine 
  • Learn to identify the contraction of the pelvic floor muscles
  • Learn to use breathing exercise to enhance the interdependent relationship of the Pelvic floor muscles and the Core muscles
  • Combination of Pilates and modified Yoga positions and stretches that significantly promotes relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles and ease symptoms of anxiousness, PMS and pain
  • Total Pelvic Floor workout in combination with functional movements and exercise.
